Measuring Coastal Absolute Sea-Level Changes Using GNSS Interferometric Reflectometry

چکیده

Rising sea levels pose one of the greatest threats to coastal zones. However, sea-level changes near coast, particularly absolute changes, have been less well monitored than those in open ocean. In this study, we aim investigate potential Global Navigation Satellite Systems Interferometric Reflectometry (GNSS-IR) measure and tie on-land (coastal GNSS) offshore (satellite altimetry) observations into same framework. We choose three GNSS stations, each regions subsidence, uplift stable vertical land motions, derive both relative surface heights (SSH) above satellite altimetry reference ellipsoid from 2008 2020. Our results show that accuracy daily mean GNSS-IR is <1.5 cm compared with co-located tide-gauge records, amplitudes annual cycle linear trends estimated measurements data agree within uncertainty. also find de-seasoned de-trended SSH time series collocated are highly correlated statistically well, indicating has monitor provide valuable information for climate studies.

Sea level observations using multi-system GNSS reflectometry

Information on sea level and its changes are important in connection to global climate change processes. For centuries, sea level has been observed with coastal tide gauges and since some decades with satellite altimetry. Furthermore, during recent years the application of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reflectometry, also known as GNSS-R, for sea level observations has been develope...

Sea state monitoring using coastal GNSS - R

We report on a coastal experiment to study GPS L1 reflections. The campaign was carried out at the Barcelona Port breaker and dedicated to the development of sea-state retrieval algorithms. An experimental system built for this purpose collected and processed GPS data to automatically generate a times series of the interferometric complex field (ICF). The ICF was analyzed off line and compared ...

The Impact of Inter-Modulation Components on Interferometric GNSS-Reflectometry

The interferometric Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (iGNSS-R) exploits the full spectrum of the transmitted GNSS signal to improve the ranging performance for sea surface height applications. The Inter-Modulation (IM) component of the GNSS signals is an additional component that keeps the power envelope of the composite signals constant. This extra component has been neglected ...

Sea Level Monitoring Using a Gnss-based Tide Gauge

A continuous monitoring of sea level changes is important for human society since more than 50% of the world’s population live within 60 km of the coast. Sea level is traditionally observed with tide gauges that give measurements relative to the Earth’s crust. To improve the understanding of sea level changes it is necessary to perform measurements with respect to the Earth’s center of gravity....

Sea level changes monitoring using GNSS technology – a review of recent efforts

Sea level is traditionally observed with tide gauges (TG). These measurements are relative to the Earth’s crust. To improve the understanding of sea level changes it is necessary to perform measurements with respect to the Earth’s center of mass. This can be done with satellite techniques. Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is a tool that can solves several hundred kilometers vectors wit...
